In their quest for the hunt for the fallen , the Ravenwing were faced with a dilemma. what happens when the enemy stops running and starts fighting back ? Few are more determined than cornered foes with nothing to lose. The ravenwing, a fast surgical strike force augmented for fast blitzkrieg combat suffered great casualties in such wars of attrition, Ravenwing high command realised that they needed a vehicle with more hardhitting firepower to take on enemy entrenchment and break through heavy blockades.
The Dark angels have an arsenal of Legion glaives and Fellblades from the time of the Horus Heresy but these war machines were too heavy and cumbersome, ill fitting of the Ravenwing's preference for fast units and unsuited for their tactics where superior speed is brought to bear in outflanking , sequestering and encircling the opposing force.
Hence the Caballero pattern tactical fellblade was developed, built upon the STC ( standard template construct ) of a Landraider . a turret with a more compact version of the fellblade advanced accelerator cannon ( railgun in modern terms ) was mounted onto the chassis with compact Mechanicum Atomantic Arc-reactor technology integrated into the hull which gave an increased boost to the thermic combustor reaction engines. However, sacrifices have to be made to mitigate this great increase in weight. Quad lascannons gave way to twin linked lascannons and only the front/ forward face is considerably armoured . The side and rear armour remain thinner to reduce the strain on the tank's engines making the tank vulnerable to assault from these angles, Thus, following in the ravenwing tradition of sacrificing firepower and protection for speed and mobility.
The Cabellero pattern tactical fellblade was to the fellblade how the tactical dreadnought armor was to the dreadnought and like the tactical dreadnought armor, it was a game changer.
